Dennis Bonnen's making a joke, but only the environmentalists really get it, and they're not laughing

We'd like to give a big thumbs up to state Rep. Dennis Bonnen, R-Angleton, for his sense of humor.

Widely regarded by environmentalists as a unrepentant foe, he continually tweaks their noses with actions such as his latest proposal, which would "elevate the cave-dwelling Texas blind salamander to the State Amphibian of Texas."

"The salamander, which at maturity is about 5 inches long, has been found to live only in the Edwards Aquifer in Hays County.

It's considered an endangered species by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

Last year, as regular readers of The Brazosport News will recall, he championed the cause of the purple sage.
