Can't get outta Brazoria County when the next hurricane arrives?

We suggest you read the following, which comes to us via official channels of your Brazoria County gubmint:

We are now in the seventh week of the 2008 Hurricane Season. So far this season has been an unusually active one. We have already had a half dozen tropical systems and one full blown hurricane (Hurricane Bertha).

If you , a friend , a neighbor or family member need help to evacuate Brazoria County in advance of a storm, you can help yourself and us if you will register with the "211" Registry .By doing this, you can notify Brazoria County Officials so we can make preparation to help you evacuate.

To register, simply pick up a phone and dial"211". A person on the phone will ask you a few simple questions such as your address, phone number , how many people in your household and if you have any pets. This information is absolutely necessary for officials to help you to evacuate.

You will need to bring medications, important papers, prescriptions, cash, food for your pets, and clothes to last for at least 3-5 days.

The only way Brazoria County Officials can help you to evacuate is to know if you need help. Please call "211" if you are going to need help to evacuate.

the preceding was presented as a Public Service. That is all.

If I didn't know better, I'd think hurricanes were just another yuppie fantasy, like globull warming.

Everywhere I went yesterday they were gabbling in the background about the hurricane in the Carribean and how "It's headed right for us."

I knew I hadn't heard anything, so when I got home, I checked the web. It's not even a durn depression, yet, and the panic is already starting.

There is such a thing as over-preparation - where stupid fears over-ride any common sense whatsoever. Like the whole of Harris, Galveston, and Brazoria all evacuating at the same time.

Ridiculous.

Here in the Houston/Baytown area, KTRH - AM is probably fixing to give us minute by minute updates. LOL
