Cracked gas escapes at Dow

While Dow Chemical Co.'s stock price continues to flounder, inching ever closer to its 52-week low of $35.89, the company is maintaining its brisk pace as an emitter of emissions here in the Petrochemical Underarm of Texas.

This past week, cracked gas escaped Furnace H1, releasing 415 lbs. of benzene, 5,028 lbs. of ethylene (gaseous), 52 lbs. of toluene, 900 lbs. of propylene (propene) and assorted other Blue Meanies, Dow reported to the state enviro authorities on Jan. 8.

Thankfully, there was no panic among the citizenry of Brazosport, which returned to its regular fare of flapjacks and Canadian bacon the following morning at breakfast, sources said.

Cause of the Dow emissions event remains under investigation.
