Kinky Friedman does Letterman's show

The 61-year-old independent candidate for Texas governor trotted out the usual one-liners ("I'm too young for Medicare and too old for women to care," "May the God of your choice bless you", etc. ) but came out with a couple I hadn't heard (though I haven't been paying real close attention):

* President Bush "is a good man trapped in a Republican's body"
* "My definition of politics -- `poli' means more than one and `tics' are blood-sucking parasites."

Dave liked him, saying, "If I were in Texas, I'd vote for ya."

So, hell, I changed my mind. Go ahead and vote for him.

This mid-term election cycle has made me long now more than ever for a viable third party.

Even when Kinky doesn't win, he may pull enough votes to convince more people to start thinking that way, and maybe in my lifetime it will happen, 'cause if this election cycle doesn't convince you that both Democrats and Republicans care first and foremost about the retention of power and free tickets to major sporting events, then you're not paying attention.

Oh, yeah, and Our Man in Austin via Angleton, Dennis Bonnen, made Wonkette today thanks to his campaign for a dead woman, which, he insists, isn't a really a campaign, since, you know, the woman isn't alive.

Do YOU believe that George W. Bush is a good man in a Republican suit? I certainly don't. No man with a conscience would have been able to do the things he has done to this country. I think that statement is a reason NOT to vote for Kinky. I live in Austin and people have been bailing on him in favor of Bell since early voting began. You hear people who have supported Kinky all along saying that they are voting for Bell now. It was fun at first, but things are serious now...and that's the attitude. That's why we are seeing an increase in the polling numbers for Chris Bell with 28% to Perry's 36%...while Kinky is drawing about 10% and Strayhorn 18%. Kinky hasn't distanced himself from the Republicans enough to win this election. I wish you would reconsider your endorsement of Kinky. This election is too important with three days left. Chris Bell is the only chance with three days left. In this election, a vote for Kinky is looking like a vote for 6 more years of Rick.

lis, that makes a lot of sense... to liberal nuts in Austin.

Maybe if you give some examples of the unconsciousable things Bush has done to this country your argument would make more sense to the average citizens of Texas.

Banjo. You got way more sense than I thought was in an ole Dow plant catwalker and Petrochemical Underarm journalist!! I'm impressed.

There is not an iota of difference beyond what hides behind the apparent difference of the Joe Goebbels propaganda of both Demicans and the Republicrats.

This personal hate expressed by Austin Lounge Lizard is typical of both Demicans and Republicrats and exactly what Kinky is not all about. Unity, synthesis, independence, fresh approaches.

You don't have to hate a person to hate their politics. Kinky never met a woman he didn't like.

The attitude of the lizards are exactly why we don't need more years of Perry the Republicrat (or Carole) or Bell the Demican.

Sounds like too much Michael Savage. One man's truth is another man's propaganda.

I agree that there is evidently not much difference between either party when it comes down to "business as usual" and that is why the elections (for the executive branch anyway) usually boil down to one, two, or three big issues, e.g. the war on terror, taxes, gay marriage, immigration.

Our failure is in not throwing out the bathwater with the baby. In other words, for the poor uneducated rednecks out there, we routinely get angry and change out the politicians but we never change out the bureaucracy.

The Austin lounge lizards are the bureaucrats and while the plebeians get in a tizzy over issues that are designed to never be solved, like abortion and homosexuality, the lizards sit back and laugh at us... and count their money. They don't really care who gets elected because they aren't going anywhere either way and business wil continue as usual.
