Shutdown, startup
Whenever there's a shutdown, emergency or otherwise, such as occurred at Chevron Phillips over in Sweeny, there's eventually a startup, which means a whole new round of oogly-googly contaniments being emitted. In this case, 500 lbs. of 1,3-Butadiene, 150 lbs. of Benzene, and so forth. These are just estimates, mind you. But you don't have to actually see much of the stuff as "steam to the flare will be controlled to ensure visible emissions are minimized." You don't want to have to look at this stuff if you can help it; breathing it will suffice.
