Kinky unveils plan to raise pay for teachers, cops and firefighters

Here's how Kinky Friedman, the independent candidate for Texas governor, would do it:

It involves placing a one per-cent surcharge right at the well-head on every barrel of oil and all natural gas produced in Texas. In today's market that's about sixty cents a barrel which wouldn't kill anybody but would rack up a very sizeable amount of money, running in many, millions, each year. This money then goes solely to increasing the salaries of teachers, cops, and fire fighters. What do you think, folks? The Trust for Texas Heroes. It's not only do-able, it's the right thing to do.

Good idea, but it's got to be in the form of a trust, elsewise we could get in a lot of fiscal trouble when the price of oil and gas goes down.
