The innards of the structure that is supposed to hold the humongous statue of Stephen F. Austin is still being constructed. Austin, known as "The Father of Texas," settled the first colony of Anglos down here in beautiful Brazoria County, according to the history books.

At the risk of being labeled unpatriotic, tell me again why on earth even one penney needs to be spent on this. Aren't there things to spend money on that might actually benefit someone?
