Sweeny Refinery Screws Up

More evidence that the people who run the ChevronPhillips Refinery in Sweeny are not doing the right thing: under an agreed order with state regulators, the company will pay a $140,250 penalty for failing to comply with effluent quality limits and failing to pay all non- hazardous waste generation fees. If anyone believes the fine is inadequate, they have until July 12 to submit their written disapproval. Written comments should be sent to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality at P.O. Box 13087, Austin, Texas 78711-3087 and must be received by 5:00 p.m. on July 12, 2004 . Written comments may also be sent by facsimile machine to the enforcement coordinator at (512) 239-2550. The enforcement coordinator in the above-mentioned Sweeny case is Michael Meyer. That is all.
