Condescending toward Ron Paul
Andrew Sullivan is getting ticked off at the mockery and condescension aimed at our Favorite Son candidate for president, US Rep. Ron Paul.
He deserves more respect than he has gotten thus far, not least because compared to the pandering of his competitors, Paul actually seems to believe what he says. And what he says has more to do with conservatism than the crap the rest of them are peddling.

The greatest American realist of all time, Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna of Mexico was once quoted
"I threw up my cap for liberty with great ardor, and perfect sincerity, but very soon found the folly of it. A hundred years to come my people will not be fit for liberty. They do not know what it is, unenlightened as they are, and under the influence of a Catholic clergy, a despotism is the proper government for them, but there is no reason why it should not be a wise and virtuous one."
At least he was honest unlike his hypocritical North American political counterparts and their servants to present. His observation applies to current North Americans hiding behind the hypocrisy of diversity and political correctness that has replaced "the Catholic clergy" who need regal elitist dictators acting through two separate political parties that are really identical to dictate their lives.
North Americans are no more ready for individual liberty and democracy than Americans south of the Rio Bravo referred to by the visonary Santa Anna in 1836.
Thus the resentment and ridicule toward Senor Ron Paul of Velasco.
Ghost of LaFitte
Santa Anna, claiming to be a "wise and virtuous" despot.
The Napoleon of the West. A great general who lost every war he led.
A braggart, a fool, and one of the greatest liars of all time, in actuality.

Ahoy There, Monsieur JD. Yes, with your closing statement “braggart, a fool, and one of the greatest liars of all time, in actuality” you have described the current field of politicians in North America (except for Senor Paul).
Santa Anna was the ultimate politician dwarfing essentially every other in the history of the Americas including the current field of candidates north and south of the Rio Bravo (except for Senor Paul who appears to be the first relatively consistent and upfront non-politician running for president of late).
General Santa Anna fought more battles than Napoleon and your North American George Washington combined and won more than he lost. Over ten different times he was called back as President or Dictator, arrested and exiled numerous times in between by Mexicans and foreign forces in a career spanning 60 years.
No politician, past or present can equal this record. These drafts or recalls confirm the accuracy of his statement concerning the readiness of his people for democracy and individual liberty in 1836.
The ignoring, the resentment and ridicule of Senor Paul while clamoring for politicians who would dictate (through government) behavior and relieve them of individual responsibility confirms that current day North Americans are no more ready than Mexicans referred to by Santa Anna in 1836.

M. laFitte - are you sure you didn't mean "avast", rather than "ahoy". Arrr.

Re: Avast
De ne couler pas assuming you are a Brother of the Coast, if not beaucoup oui!
The perceived knockdown by the regal despot Giuliani to Brother Paul’s simple query as to whether the condescending elitist had read the official CIA and 9/11 commission conclusions and other consensus reports concerning cause is a lot of bilge, maybe line honors this round, but nothing more than pickle boat position in the end.
Guiliani is strictly rail meat as are the entire field of both parties when it comes to the consistency and honesty of Brother Paul.
