Caught on videotape !!
Our endeavors to report on emissions events in the Petrochemical Underarm admittedly have been an exercise in futility cause no one much seems to care, but today we take it up a notch and present a video we sent up to the YouTube after a reader sent us some raw footage of an "upset" out at the Chevron Phillips plant in Old Ocean (West o' the Brazos near Sweeny).

Yeah, this is a bad thing, for sure, but you can be certain they didn't MEAN to do it. It costs them a fortune, more than the fines, to lose that much production time and product and methane to try and burn as much of it off as possible, into CO2 and H2O, before it gets out.
I hope it didn't slow down their gasoline production rate. We need it all.

I'm sure you're right, JD, but whoever kicked the extension cord out to cause the power shortage sure as hell better get a demerit in his personnel file.
What are the legal consequences of the "upset"? Big demerits?
SFMoO -- usually a monetary penalty of some sort levied by the state, often a year or two later, from what i gather.
That ole Banjo sure knows how to make a point. Great video. Hope it gets seen by lots of folks.
