CBS makes right choice with Carey

In selecting the comedian/actor Drew Carey as the new host of "The Price Is Right," a CBS executive told Variety it was important to choose someone who had "fundamental respect for the game."

We wholeheartedly agree.

With sports heroes, political leaders, referees and other role models consistently succcumbing to dark forces, can you imagine the effect that a cynical host of "The Price Is Right" might have on the national consciousness?

When the Plinko chip is dropped at a crucial juncture of the game, there is more than $50,000 at stake. Belief in the American Way (and the sanctity of fair play) is on the line.

Drew Carey is just the man to keep the integrity of the game intact when Bob Barker retires as the game show host after 35 years.

With his gift at impromptu hijinks, Carey, a veteran of the US Marine Corps., should keep "Price" fans on their toes with his bon mots, especially when Barker's Beautifies come into play.

We hope, however, that Mr. Carey, who alludes often to his enjoyment of pole-dancing strippers, will keep his comments at a PG level when the spokesmodels appear in swimsuit attire to give away a boat.
