Dr. Joshua Perper and the annals of unasked questions

Dr. Joshua Perper, the coroner who handled the autopsy of Anna Nicole Smith, has a lump near the top of his head.

The lump is quite apparent because he has little hair on his head. It protrudes just to the left of the skull crown, and looks to be about the size of half a baseball.

Dr. Perper, pictured here in a photo that doesn't do justice to his lump, speaks with an accent whose origin I can't quite divine, but he's well-spoken and appears to be quite intelligent, so the lump evidently has not impaired his intellect, based on his nightly appearances on the cable news television networks.

Still, the lump remains, night after night, unexplained to world TV watchers who are following the developments regarding the final disposition of Anna Nicole Smith's remains, estate, infant daughter, lovers, and so forth.

I suppose it would be unprofessional for one of the cable TV news hosts to suddenly ask, "By the way, Dr. Perper, forgive me but our viewers have been emailing and calling and they wants to know, what is the lump on your head?"

Yet the question remains unasked by the media, leaving the world cable TV news audience in the dark, uninformed and wondering.

This morning, I heard someone say, "If he's a doctor, why can't he fix that lump on his head?"

The question was posed not in a TV studio, live on the air, but in a living room where Dr. Perper and his lump have been appearing on a daily basis on the television.

The question cries out to be asked. And, in fact, it has been asked, but not by the professional news gatherers who have been covering every angle to the Anna Nicole Smith story, save for Dr. Perper's head lump.

So, how 'bout it news media?

You some up everything I've been thinking, What the hell is that lump? I told my girlfriend I was going to google his name tonight and I was brought to your blog. Very well written, humorous, but I still need to know, so on with the search.

The question has been asked and answered.

This is actually exactly the reason I searched for his name, and just his name. Man. The internet is awesome.

I read Dr. Perper's comment regarding his head, and he dismissed it as having been dropped on his head as a child. I suffered the same indignity at age 1 and have no prominent appendage on my head.

I prefer to believe that Dr. Perper, a European is behaving in the typically European manner of not desiring to reveal the real truth behind his disfigurement.

Having left Romania and traveled to Jerusalem later gives rise to the possibility that he was the victim of Nazi injustice. At some point in his younger days he probably was beaten by Nazi SS thugs either in a death cammp or for attempting to escape initial capture.

I have known some folks who experienced the Holocaust and they are very secretive about their lives during that period.

Just my take on things, but probably closer to the real truth.

I am appalled at the sheer ignorance of all you people. I was Dr. Perper's Executive Secretary and Administrative Assistant for 16 years. Dr. Perper is a doctor, a lawyer and holds a Master of Science Degree. He is an internationally known and well respected forensic pathologist. Besides being extremely intelligent, Dr. Perper is a warm and caring human being. He has raised a family of two sons (both of whom are doctors) and a daughter (who is a lawyer). What right do you have to comment like this on this man's appearance? Dr. Perper's origin is from Rumania and he has educated himself to become one of the world's leading forensic pathologists. I cannot believe the audacity of you unintelligent people. Instead of respecting his knowledge you have made a mockery of him. I think you are all horrible! Shame on you!!!!!!

Comment to Peggy Madison....

Peggy, we mean no disrespect and cartainly no one here doubts the good doctor's standing in his chosen field.

However, we are only human and have curiosity about the unusual.

Like it or not, just about EVERY person who sees the doctor either in person or on media is going to ask "What's with the lump?"

Some will ask themselves silently, others will ask aloud. And if you're honest you'll probably admit it's a question YOU have asked at one time or another.

SO GIVE US A BREAK and untwist your panties. You know the doctor on a personal basis so tell us... WHAT'S WITH THAT FREAKIN' LUMP?

I quite agree this is entirely too focused on his lump! Anyone can tell he is a well-educated man. And anyone can tell why. Those elephant ears of his would never miss even a whisper of what his professors said.

Well, well Miss Peggy, why don't you tell us what that friggin' lump is? Sanctimonious cow.

Anonymous said...

Yeah, shame on all of you.

So what is it?

What difference would it make, knowing about the bump? Why are you so curious about it? Would knowing the origin of the bump alter your opinion of Dr. Perper and the very thorough job he has done performing the autopsy and reporting on the results? Call me "cow" or whatever you want; I think you are shallow and an insignificant idle gossip.

So, now we have two questions. What is that lump on the good doctor's head and what is that stick up Ms. Madison's arse?

So,Here it is.
I am Dr. J. Perper, and after weeks of reading this erroneous blog, I have come to the conclusion that I must Fill you imbeciles in on my lovebump. The Year was 1953, and I had just come back from Korea. Now, it must be understood that a field
medic on the frontlines attempting to perform the world's first autopsy is lonely, under pressure, and has a lot of time on his hands.
This being said, I can now elaborate. I was placing my fingers in a panda bear's anus when suddenly "WHACK", mr. panda turned flailing, at which point in time a lump quite hastily developed.Big deal.Happy Now?

Is it just me, or does he look like Simon Bar Sinister, the main villian on Underdog?

According to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, Perper was dropped accidentally on his head by his aunt when he was a small child and a blood clot thickened part of his skull, resulting in his uniquely-shaped head.[4]

What a bunch of crude idiots. I'd rather have a bump on my head and be brilliant than NOT have a filter in my brain that told me what was and what was NOT appropriate to do and say aloud. Yes, we are human and wonder about things. That doesn't mean that every thought we have needs to be shared.
Some of you are crude, cruel, ignorance, and have the manners of trailer trash.
