To outlaw or not to outlaw a racial slur, that is the unconstitutional question!

I guess this was inevitable.

The mayor of Brazoria, a used car salesman by the name of Corley, has called a big meeting tonight about his idea to pass an ordinance that would prohibit anyone calling anyone else a "nigger."

I made a prediction on Sunday to Mouth of the Brazos, the most influential blogger in the Town of Brazoria who had immediately and indignantly raised questions about Ye Olde Constitution as it related to the "controversial" ordinance.

(This was before the Houston newspaper reporter read the Clute paper and realized, 'Holy crap, I better write a story about this shit!" which of course led to other media muttering, "Whoa, weirdness in a small Texas town, this oughta be good." The Houston daily's reader representative has noted heightened interest in the topic.)

Anyway, I told Mouth of the Brazos to simmer down:

"This would be Good for the city. It'd bring the Klan to town for a protest, which would bring counterprotestors down from Houston, which would bring the TVs to town, and then don't forget your ordinary gawkers.

The fast food joints'd be full, gas stations busy and Buc-ee's would sell a lot of overpriced coffee and soda water. Tax receipts would be UP. It'd put Brazoria on the map and further position Mr. Corley for higher elective office."

(Corley's a white man, by the way. And reportedly a real good buddy of County Court at-Law Judge James Blackstock. Wondering if they've put their two legal minds together on this ordinance?)

Anyway, the meeting's tonight at 6 p.m., the Clute paper says. I won't be there. Hopefully, Mouth of the Brazos will be.

This North Carolina Nifong Syndrome caused by mutations in the Duke LaCrosse virus inevitably is spreading rapidly by mimicry all the way down to little Brazoria. Look for its further spread nationwide.

Hopefully if chief Nifong virus tracker J. Jackson appears for a news conference on the Brazos River Bridge, Bill Cosby will be given equal time.

I dunno, Banjo. I now try and keep a goodly distance from people and activities I find distasteful.

Additionally, I have found that it is practically impossible for a low-to-moderate income, employee-not-employer type person to influence actions in any governmental body.

Please believe me when I say that I do have some experience in this arena.
