B'Wood to play Katy at Reliant
Buckle your chinstraps, boys and girls.
The Brazoswood Bucs now are going to play mighty Katy in the state football playoffs, after nearly everyone picked them to finish last in District 24-5A during the preseason prognosticating season.
B'Wood ripped La Porte 28-7 on Saturday. ( see game story )
Now they'll play Katy, ranked third in the state by TexasPrepXtra.com, at Reliant Stadium in Houston.
B'Wood Coach Dean DeAtley oughta be voted Texas coach of the year, if you ask us. Also deserving a tip o the hardhat is defensive coordinator Allan Weddell, the former genius head coach behind all the great La Marque teams who came to B'Wood this year after the Texas A&M Aggies let him go. {Editor's note: WRONG! He was D coordinator 2 years ago. The writer regrets the egregious error. See comments.}
Katy is a mighty and feared power in Texas high school football circles, and Brazoswood is the Rodney Dangerfield of the Lone Star State's schoolboy pigskin parade. Not many people will give us a chance in the next big game.
But the bigger they are the harder they fall, is the way we look at it, so let's everybody ride to the sound of the cannons next weekend!

Helluva a job by Weddell. Especially since he's been doing double duty coaching at the University of Houston the past two years.
he laid the spiritual groundwork 2 years ago ...
actually, i wrote that about weddell after googling his name and seeing some old msg board talking about him being the D coordinator ... then, after i posted it, i was laying in bed and thought, Hmmm, i probably shoulda checked the date on that msg board ...
actually, i've never been to a B'Wood game in my life, though i do know one of their defensive starters ... and i do hope they win ... and i thank you for writing to set the record straight ... GO BUCS (even tho i won't be at the game)!!
CLARIFICATION: i was googling DeAtley's name when i came across the mention of Weddell on the msg board. Go you Bucs!!!!
Didn't Waddell have a not-so-illustious career in Angleton at some point?

i don't know, D.
as you can see from my misinformed intial post, i don't know that much about the high school football scene locally.
feel free to let us know what you know, if it's within the bounds of libel law.
go you BUCS!
