How hot is it?

Despite the less-than-inviting red water offered by our neighbors in Oklahoma (aesthetically speaking), Max the Bassett Hound, the official mascot of The Brazosport News, plunges right into a fishin' hole located next to our temporary bureau in the Sooner State.

It was 109 degrees the other day when this was taken.

Max never never was given to jumping into bodies of water in the Petrochemical Underarm of Texas, but now the stakes are higher as we spend time with kinfolk where the wavin' wheat sure looks sweet and the wind comes sweepin' down the plain.

Yeah, it's a dry heat, but still too dadgum hot. Posted by Picasa

"If dogs run free, why not me
Across the swamp of time?
My mind weaves a symphony
And tapestry of rhyme.
Oh, winds which rush my tale to thee
So it may flow and be,
To each his own, it's all unknown,
If dogs run free."
-- the poet Dylan, circa 1970
