Surfside after Rita

Hurricane Rita didn't even hit Surfside Beach, but the storm still moved a lot of sand off the beach. They're pushing a lot of sand with graders into neat little piles on the seaward side of Beach Drive, but it looks hopeless to me. Open septic tanks are not uncommon. A guy working down there told me he wouldn't go in the water, but there were plenty of surfers riding the waves this afternoon. More pics on the photoblog.
