Ron Paul has a Dem opponent
Shane Sklar, a Democrat and former staffer for Congressman Chet Edwards, has announced he will challenge U.S. Rep. Ron Paul, R (wink)-Brazosport, for the District 14 congressional seat, reports Charles Kuffner in Off The Kuff.
Sklar left his post as executive director of the Independent Cattlemen's Association of Texas, Inc., to run for office, so right off the bat you know he can talk turkey when it comes to meat on the hoof, but he is extremely young, by congressional political standards, judging from his 1995 Sigma Chi fraternity picture at Sam Houston State University. (You can Google the picture, but it's been removed from the server at Sam Houston State U., so I can't post it.)
He is from a ranching family in Edna, in the Coastal Bend region of the Texas Gulf Coast. He grew up in Jackson and Victoria counties and his family was one of the first to bring in registered Simbrah cattle in the 1970s, Sklar told Country World News.
Paul is not a traditional Republican. He's against the war in Iraq, against the Patriot Act and against the Central America Free Trade Act.
Don't know where Sklar stands on the war or the Patriot Act, but in his email to Kuff, he said:
Our nation is outsourcing more and more jobs everyday and this simply is not right. Our sovereignty is at stake and I will be the leader that works to reverse that trend, not encourage it!
"Sovereignty" is one of Paul's buzzwords. He had dibs on that word long before Sklar even thought about running for Congress. But, all's fair in love, war and politics.

He's also a Chet Edwards clone, and very young, and very, very ambitious... 3 strikes already :^D.
I have suggested to Kuff in a comment that they ought to put him on a political shelf for a while --say, a political fundraisng committee or a bank board --- and let him moulder a bit.
