Campaign 2006: Kinky hits Houston
One whiff told the story. Yes, this must be the place, the latest stop in the Kinky Friedman Traveling Book Signing/De-Wussification of Texas Tour.
The cigar, clenched betwixt the teeth of the singer-turned-author-turned-politician, is not offensive in the least. The Smoke Police did not show up.
The Kinkster drew a crowd of more than 100 to Murder By The Book, the Museum District book seller.
It was, by and large, a grayish crowd. Readers. A little on the paunchy side. These people? Not a AbMaster owner in sight.
But are they voters? They had the disaffected, world-weary look of non-voters. They bought T-shirts and posters and books. Kinky signed and shook hands.
The Kinkster's latest, Texas Hold 'Em, sold out within the hour.
But will his de-wussification of Texas plan catch on when the media maw is distracted by "Adios, MoFo" bon mots and a sassy granny?
To quote The Kinkster himself, "Why the hell not?"
