Naval Station Ingleside on close list

Naval Station Ingleside was once a hotly pursued government project, with Galveston, Corpus Christi and other Gulf Coast cities hot to trot to bring the project to their towns. That was only about 20 years ago. Now, Rummy wants it closed to save dough. Military jobs lost: 1,901; civilian 260.
We trust the threat of Mexican naval assault from the south is now over.

Ah, yes, Homeport. I worked at the Corpus Christi Caller-Times back when Homeport was the big plum eagerly sought by the aforementioned cities. It may be worthless now, but the lust for that port back then got me an all-expenses paid trip from Corpus Christi to Fort Lauderdale and money to rent a car to drive back to Corpus along the coast, stopping along the way to interview all the other lusting residents of our beautiful U.S. Gulf Coast. It was a waste of time story, but I got to spent Caller-Times expense money in New Orleans on Pat O'Brien's hurricanes. Can't beat that!

Put $10 on an exact box of Giacomo and Wilko in the Preakness. Money in the bank!
