New high-rise irks some in tony River Oaks

In about two years, a new 37-story high-rise condo will be open on the north bank of Buffalo Bayou, east of Memorial Park, west of the Shepherd exit. It'll be on 10-acres of prime, undeveloped property. It'll be good for the tax base, as they say, but not everyone is happy, according to our unimpeachable sources, who say some River Oaks residents on the south side of the bayou aren't all that thrilled with high-rise residents looking down into their formerly private backyards. Among them, we're told, is one of Houston's most prominent personal injury attorneys. Score one for supporters of Houston's no-zoning philosophy.
